The McAllen Chamber of Commerce continues to offer a series of Creative & Enrichment Classes presented by the McAllen Creative Incubator, the cultural arm of the Chamber.  Qualified RGV artists like Daniel Tyx teach classes and share their knowledge of various disciplines, such as writing.

“We are proud to collaborate with local businesses and artists to engage residents in creative processes,” said Laura Robles, Cultural Arts & Incubator Coordinator. “The continued exposure to the arts enhances our community and helps expose the variety of cultural talent in the Rio Grande Valley.”

Daniel Blue Tyx is a freelance journalist, essayist, and fiction writer. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Purdue University, and his writing has appeared in publications including the Oxford American, the Texas Observer, Texas Highways, and Best American Travel Writing.

Daniel will be offering a weekly 2 hr workshop for 6 weeks on “The Art of Autobiographical Writing.”  The workshop will be held at the McAllen Creative Incubator as a part of the Creative & Enrichment Class series.

“From family history to work to travel, our own lives are an endless source of material for artistic inspiration,” said Tyx. “In this course, we will read autobiographical essays ranging from the humorous to the profound written by masters of the craft.  We will explore the ingredients of a good story and practice the narrative techniques that invite readers into our own lives and minds.”

Cost is $70 for a total of 12 hours of instruction.  Class begins October 10th at 6pm at the McAllen Creative Incubator, located at 601 N. Main Street, McAllen.  Register today at www.McA2classes.com or by calling Laura Robles at 956-687-2787.
