McAllen, TX – Visitors to McAllen’s March Art Walk can expect another year of exemplary works by IDEA Public Schools’ art students.
Carefully curated by IDEA’s exhibition coordinator and art instructor, Julissa Rodriguez, the McAllen Creative Incubator, located at 601 N. Main St. in McAllen, is hosting ‘Unite for the Ninth’ in conjunction with Texas’ Youth Art Month.
“Our exhibition showcases a wonderful collection of artwork of our students,” shared Rodriguez, who teaches painting and AP studio art at IDEA College Preparatory San Juan. “Our teachers go above and beyond to help prepare our students for college. We work hard to find a balance between a fun and rigorous classroom and its visible in our student’s artwork.”
‘Unite For the Ninth’ will feature works from the Mission, McAllen, Quest, Pharr, San Juan, Alamo, Weslaco, Weslaco Pike, San Benito, and Brownsville. IDEA’s visual arts program is both college preparatory and vertically-aligned to ensure student success on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate portfolios.
“Every single art instructor in our district, including our faculty in Central Texas, is dedicated to fostering a deep love of arts in their students,” remarked Cristina Correa, IDEA’s Visual Arts Curriculum Manager and arts instructor at IDEA College Preparatory San Juan. “Our art department is like family, and by collaborating and learning from one another, our students have learned to take great pride in their work.”
The opening reception for ‘Unite For the Ninth’ will be held on Friday, March 2, from 7 to 9 pm. The public is welcomed and encouraged to stay and see work from tenants of the McAllen Arts Incubator, which hosts both private and group classes for children and adults.
Art Walk is designed to bring awareness of galleries, in the Arts District, as well as unknown and known artist. Thru art walk, McAllen paves the way for artists to express their artistic passion, increase interest in the arts, and promote awareness in appreciation of all art and culture. Trees, “Arboles” by Roel Flores
The McAllen Chamber of Commerce’s Creative Incubator is proud to support the exhibit Trees, “Arboles” by Mr. Roel Flores.
Flores, who was born in Weslaco, Texas and still resides there is a shy, soft spoken man. He speaks thru art, and has had several exhibits at the McAllen Creative Incubator. Mr. Roel Flores’s, artwork reflects an era when, the valley was young, untouched by commercial buildings and he worked in the fields. Roel is the oldest of five brothers of seasonal migrant worker parents.
“Since we were young, trees were always there. Trees were a part of our lives; we would climb and play on them. Later in our lives trees were there to give us shade on hot sunny days, while we ate at noon and when we got home after working in the fields.” says Mr. Flores of his love of trees, “Always with their branches like strong arms and with their leafs singing songs of hope.”
Mr. Flores’s accomplishments are many, but he is most proud to have received the National Arts & Humanities Proclamation from President Obama in 2013.
In additional to painting Roel is an accomplished guitarist. He come from an artistic family, which consists of a brother & nephew, who occasionally exhibit together. The passion for Art runs deep in the Flores family particularly in Mr. Flores and his nephew Daniel Rodriguez.
Visit the exhibit on display at the McAllen Creative Inbuator during Art Walk on February 2, 2018 from 7pm-9pm. The exhibit will remain on display for the entire month.
McAllen—Back by popular demand. The McAllen Chamber of Commerce continues to offer a series of Community Classes presented by the McAllen Creative Incubator, the “cultural arm” of the Chamber. Community Classes is a series of classes meant to engage adults in creative processes and to continue to expose residents to the cultural arts. Our goal, for the upcoming workshops is to connect local artists’ portions of the community interested in arts related events, thereby building a stronger community. LIVE AND ONLINE ART AUCTION SATURDAY NOV. 18TH
Promoting the artwork of new and emerging artists
McAllen, TX, October 30, 2017– A live and online auction will be held at the McAllen Creative Incubator to promote the artwork of area artists. Doors open at noon for viewing and the auction starts at 2:00pm. There will be a meet-n-greet with the artists immediately after the auction lasting until 5:00pm.

“This is an exciting, educational program for McAllen,” said Laura Robles,Cultural Arts & Incubator Coordinator. “The Arts Council is very pleased to initiate this program, which will aid in drawing attention to the literary arts.”
“While public art such as sculptures and murals is beginning to become more visible around town, the McAllen Arts Council recognized that there were limited options for presenting literary arts to the community,” explained Nancy Millar, Vice President and Director of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce’s Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. “Having an official City Poet Laureate offers many opportunities to incorporate poetry into official functions,” she said.
The Poet Laureate will hold the title through 2020.
Poets who live, work, attend school or attend worship services in McAllen may apply themselves, or can be nominated by another individual. Applications are available online at www.visitmcallen.com and at the McAllen Chamber and McAllen Creative Incubator offices located at 1200 Ash Avenue and 601 North Main Street respectively. Deadline for applications to be returned to the McAllen Chamber of Commerce is November 10, 2017 at 5:00 pm.
Solo Exhibit “Abstract World” by Aurora Vite
McAllen, TX. Award winning artist Aurora Vite who was born and raised in Mexico announced that her abstract series “Abstract World” will exhibit at the McAllen Creative Incubator Gallery this month of October.
Aurora who is a well-known & accomplished artist in Mexico participated in the McAllen’s Art Council, Fine Art Exhibit in 2016 and won 1st place for her photography art. The international artist who is known for her animal realism and colorful abstracts in different techniques like acrylics, oil and mixed media will have a solo exhibit which debut on October 6, 2017 during the Art Walk Event. The Exhibit will remain on display thru the end of that month.
