Aspiring musicians are Invited to showcase their Talents during the McAllen Chamber of Commerce Open Mic Sessions this summer

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and in collaboration with Prelude will be hosting a monthly “Open Mic” talent search this summer. The sessions take place on Friday June 3, July 8, and August 5 from 7:00 pm– 9:00 p.m. at the McAllen Creative Incubator located at 601 N. Main Street, McAllen.

Don’t miss your opportunity to perform for a spot in one of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce events, such as the Food Park Unplugged.

Food Park Unplugged is a Free event open to all ages and features live performances that rocks the block in the heart of McAllen’s Arts and Entertainment Districts as the Valley’s first-ever Mobile Food Truck Park,” said Yajaira Villarreal, “Open Mic, this summer will bring forth, raw talent.  We are constantly looking for local talent to perform at the Food Park Unplugged.”  FPU takes place every third Friday of the month. 7:30pm-9:30pm at 10 N. Broadway, McAllen.

During this Open Mic auditions, Artists could also be selected to perform for the Art Walk at the Creative Incubator.

Art Walk in conjunction with Music After hours takes place every first Friday of the month from September thru May.

Additionally, musicians could be selected to perform for The Prelude’s booking team, which books musicians for events throughout the Valley.

Aspiring performers across the Valley are encouraged to sign up and  reserve their spot, by signing up at http://theprelude.net/openmicmcallen/ .  Artists can also show up at Open Mic night, but this is discouraged as spaces are limited. April 20th-Visit with former MISD Student Caitlin Diaz

Caitlin Diaz, a MISD graduate and former KMAC student, has found success as a film maker in Los Angeles and will be visiting the RGV April 20th, specifically on this day, the McAllen Creative Incubator located at 601 N Main St. Ms. Diaz will have a screening and open discussion about experimental and DIY film-making to aspiring students and/or anyone interested in the topic or pursuing this career. She recently collaborated with Beyoncé’s team to produce her latest music video “Formation”.

Studio & Workspace available at an affordable price at the McAllen Creative Incubator

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for artists who are interested in becoming tenants of the McAllen Creative Incubator.  With help from the city, the McAllen Chamber has created 20 low cost artist studios and office spaces for expanding artists and art organizations.  The Cultural Arts Department houses artists of different art disciplines such as porcelain painting, choir lessons and a children’s Acting Studio, just to name a few.  The studio space available is a 12 x 12 space and rents for $175.00 a month.

To apply for studio space, interested artists need to submit a completed application, samples of work, resume and a business plan.   Applications can be pick-up at the Creative Incubator located at 601 N. Main Street, McAllen  or it is also available online at http://www.mcallenart.com/studio-directory

For assistance with the business plan, set an appointment with Mr. Jorge Sanchez, Business Development Coordinator for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce at 956-687-2787.  Completed application and business plan can be submitted directly to the McAllen Creative Incubator or the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, at 1200 Ash, P.O. McAllen— McAllen Art Grant Program is an open submission grant scheme for individual artists and organizations living and working in McAllen. Awards up to a maximum of $1,000 are available to artists and organizations working in the context of art.
The deadline for submission of a McAllen Art Grant is Friday, May 13, 2016 @ 12pm.  The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the McAllen Arts Council have been working effectively to promote art programs within the Valley.  For the upcoming year, the two organizations would like to award grants to artists and organizations that are seeking funding for projects in McAllen.

Organizations and individual artists that have received grants in prior years have been McAllen Memorial High-Art Department, Pharr Community Theater, The Cachetones, and IMAS just to name a few.

The grant program in McAllen distributes money from The McAllen Chamber of Commerce to individual artists and art organizations.  The McAllen Chamber of Commerce  is making an important contribution to cultural activities in McAllen. We hope that these new grants will provide a valuable legacy.
Applications are available at www.mcallenart.com, McAllen Arts Council Facebook Page, www.mcallencvb.com and paper copies can be picked up at the McAllen Creative Incubator office at 601 N. AUDICIONES PARA MICROBRA por ACTIN STUDIOS

ACTIN Auditions

 

ACTIN (actuación integral) invita a las audiciones para su primer obra de teatroen español (microbra) dentro del género microteatro en comedia que montará de forma profesional para una primer temporada en el Valle de Texas.

Las audiciones tendrán lugar el próximo martes 15 y jueves 17 de marzo de 6:00 a 8:00 de la tarde en la Incubadora Creativa de McAllen – Suite 9 (601 N. Main St. McAllen, TX) para los jóvenes que deseen ser parte de este primer proyecto de teatro.

Los dos personajes que buscamos son hombres de aproximadamente 20 a 35 años o que lo aparenten, uno de corporalidad media y otro alto y delgado. Experiencia teatral básica, vis cómica (facilidad para hacer reír) y que hablen el idioma español al 100%.

La obra es una comedia de una escritora de la ciudad de México que se presentó en la temporada “Por tus vecinos” en la empresa Microteatro México. La idea general de este genero es una obra de 15 minutos, para 15 personas en habitaciones pequeñas de 15 a 20 m2.

ACTIN considera que este nuevo concepto de entender la creación teatral es un comienzo ideal para el público del Valle de Texas. Hacer algo diferente, ir a reir, a relajarte y de esta manera hacer crecer en nuestra sociedad el gusto por el arte y la cultura.

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for artists who are interested in becoming tenants of the McAllen Creative Incubator.  With help from the city, the McAllen Chamber has created 20 low cost artist studios and office spaces for expanding artists and art organizations.  The Cultural Arts Department houses artists of different art disciplines such as porcelain painting, choir lessons and a children’s Acting Studio, just to name a few.  The studio spaces vary in size and price.

To apply for studio space, interested artists need to submit a completed application, samples of work, resume and a business plan. Prospective tenants, who are on our waiting list, will be considered first.  Then, the prospective tenant will meet with a representative of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce.  Applications can be pick-up at the Creative Incubator located at 601 N. Main Street, McAllen  or it is also available online at http://www.mcallenart.com/studio-directory.
